I’d Love Some Input – Wednesday August 12, 2009

 – I am interesting in purchasing a rotary fabric cutter and mat. Anyone have a brand to recommend or to un-recommend? It would only be getting a light amount of use.

 – We have lots of saltine crackers at our house leftover from a supper where not many got eaten. Do you have a recipe to share so I can use some of them up. Excluding squash casserole recipes. I like it but my sis doesn’t particularly care for it.

 – I love instrumental music that combines classical music pieces with hymns (ie: Canon in D and A Mighty Fortress is Our God).  I have a cd or two but wouldn’t be opposed to having more. Any suggestions for me?

Muchas gracias!!

  1. Cracker crumb chicken!!  My favorite.  Dip your chicken pieces in butter and then in cracker crumbs,(chopped finely) mixed with seasoning salt, italian seasoning, basil, salt and pepper.  Bake 275 for 3-3 1/2 hours.

  2. Oh yes, I have a Fiskars rotary cutter that I don’t use all that much and like it fine, don’t have anything to compare it to though, I imagine there might be reviews online. About music, that sounds very nice, let me know what you have? Also what you find in adition? Thanks!

  3. There’s a recipe in our new cookbook called Cracker Salad–p.33–I’ve never made it so I don’t know what it tastes like, but that may be a way for you to use up your crackers.

  4. Last Christmas, my aunt Elva gave us a tin of homemade candies.  One of them had a saltine cracker as the base with some chocolate.  Maybe I’ll give her a holler and find out exactly how it was made.

  5. Poor man’s steak, salad made w/ crackers tomatoes & Mayo, (something my husband grew up with), soups, give them to a pregnant lady with morning sickness…..Can’t think of anymore uses for crackers right now. =)

  6. I’ve had my Olfa mat and cutter for years and still love it.
Saltines? I have no idea – I do.not.like the things and don’t even keep them on hand….sorry. 🙂

  7. In case you’re still interested, here’s the candy recipe using saltines:

     Pine Bark

    2 sticks butter
    1 c. brown sugar
about 40 saltines to line bottom of pan
1 large pkg. milk chocolate chips
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
    Foil to line pan
Line a large cookie sheet pan with foil, then place crackers on foil. Combine butter and sugar in pot and bring to a boil and boil for 3 min. Pour mixture over crackers. Bake at 400 for 7 min. Remove from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Spread evenly. Spread nuts over that. Pat down with hands. Put n freezer for 30 min. Break into chunks to serve. refrigerate unused portions. Yum!!!!!!!!!! Its important to do the minutes exactly.
